I’m a union guy for almost forty years, and honestly, when the going was really rough forty years ago, when my wife and I were pretty much starving, it were residuals that got me through on a granola bar ad. It was like a miracle. I’m not in that zone anymore. I have a nice life; I’m also… as far as I was concerned, I was kind of retired, but there’s been a lot of work lately. I’m currently on a show Interview with the Vampire, and we were shooting in Prague, and we had to just stop and come here. I mean, the thing that I find really terrible is that sooner or later, they’re gonna negotiate something, and I understand how hard it is to do that right now, but they have to at least try because they’re going to come up with a new contract. And if it’s four months from now, in the meantime, all these support troops, all of us, are gonna be… you know, have no money, not be able to pay their bills and like I say, it’s not my situation - I’m old! But yeah, it’s not good. They should try to immediately start figuring something out, and the impression that I got is that they weren’t doing that

I must not buy. Buying is the purse-killer. Buying is the little-dopamine that brings total bankruptcy. I will face my wishlist. I will permit the limited time sale to pass over me and through me. If you have Max (Formerly HBO Max), The Streaming Service will be losing Over the Garden Wall (my favorite animated mini-series) on August 31st. So watch it while you can.
Over the Garden Wall is a very sweet, very wholesome, animated semi-musical, mini-series about two boys lost in a strange forest. It’s a bit like an autumn themed Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland or The Wizard of Oz. And all the characters and settings are inspired by vintage New England Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas postcards (mostly Halloween).
It features the singing of the iconic Jack Jones.
It also has the voice talents of Elijah Wood, Christopher Lloyd, John Cleese, and Tim Curry.
I highly recommend Over the Garden Wall. Watch it while you can. I don’t know what streaming service it might land on this autumn. Chances are it will be available somewhere in September since a lot of people consider it seasonal (It originally aired in November of 2014). So if you have Max, I urge you to watch it now. It’s so good. It’s surreal and beautiful.
It’s very, very sweet. And it’s strangely comforting. I consider it chicken soup for the soul. I love it almost as much as I love Nightmare before Christmas.
terfs keep mentioning the % of autistics who are trans/nb and that we’re ‘brainwashed’
and because i’m an asshole, i decided to look into why so many autistic folks are trans/nb. it’s not an inaccurate statement, at least the first half, but terfs lie through their teeth so i decided to get to the scientific root of it.
the answer blew my fucking mind.
the study on gender and autism i found said two very specific things about autistic people: we are more mentally resistant to things like social conditioning and binarism. we like our secret third things, y'know.
an excerpt:
“The finding that non-binary identities are most elevated seems to support hypotheses focussed on autistic resistance to social conditioning, which are consistent with existing evidence of the same effect with respect to self-description of sexual orientation. Perhaps elevated rates of trans identity in autism might result from a rejection of the binary cisgenderist norm, which combined with a below-typical concern for social norms could promote the disclosure of the identity.”
94% of autistics surveyed for that paper identified themselves as non-binary.
other studies have found autistic people have higher levels of critical thinking, and require more evidence to maintain or convert to a belief system (hence why many of us eventually fall away from religion) than allistic people.
which means, at least from my perspective, that:
a) the 'brainwashing’ terfs are accusing the trans community of inflicting on autistic folks would likely not even work if they tried.
b) the current binary definition of gender flies directly against embedded autistic modes of thinking to begin with.
you cannot brainwash someone into thinking something they already believe.
This essentially suggests that autistic people are likely to be NB because we are in fact resistant to the relevant brainwashing.
